Meet Captain
Charlie Ives
Let me tell you a little about
myself. I grew up in the Aransas Pass, Texas area and my favorite things
to do were to hunt ducks and catch fish. I have been on the water and
running boats since I was 11 years old. My younger brothers and I, man,
that was forever ago, had a wooden skiff and we would ride our bikes to
the harbor and crank it up - spend all day fishing. At the end of the day
we'd sell our catch so we could go do it again the next day.
Fishing has always been my
passion - from a very young age. I was young and I
have
commercially fished and guided for the last 31 years. I got my captains
license in 1989 and guided under the name of Surecatch Guide Service for a
couple of years, after that I continued to commercial fish even after
house bill 1000, which took redfish and trout off the commercial market. I
fished for drum, flounder and sheepshead from San Antonio Bay to Baffin
Bay, Nueces, Copano, Carlos, Aransas and Corpus Christi Bays. I got
serious about guiding about eight years ago when saltwater fishing became
so popular. It took me about three years to build a clientele as there are
so many guides to choose from.

There are a lot of good guides down this way, that will go out of their
way to ensure you have a good time. The key perhaps is finding one you
enjoy spending time with and one that has the experience and knowledge of
the waters in this area to find the fish.
Personally, I am very good with children. I have an 11 year old daughter
myself and have been married for 28 years. I have been on the water near
all my life. I am an outdoorsman and enjoy fishing and introducing others
to the pleasures of same. I have enjoyed, over the years, taking my
nephews and nieces fishing and teaching them to enjoy the simple things in
life. If you book a fishing trip with me I will work hard to see to it
that you, your friends or family have a great time.

Captain Charlie's
Fishing Scrapbook

My wife and I have always been
hard workers. Fishing is in our blood.
We fished commercially from dawn
to dusk and at night too. We shared plenty of
sunrises and full moon nights on
the water. We were married nearly 17 years
before blessed with our beautiful
daughter - Katie - who's our pride and joy!
It's been
a long and happy road for all of us!

This is where
it all started.....
Here's a photo of
my father, when he was young...Captain Sydney Charles Ives on
his boat. He was a very likeable person, a real joy to
be around and there wasn't anybody who didn't remember his
great smile and down-to-earth character. And boy could
he fish!!! Wishin' he was still here because we sure had some
exciting adventures together.
Great father and
teacher! |

Here's me with a shark I caught when I
was 13 helping my dad on a shrimp
boat during summer.

Wintertime fishing trips were a nice change
from the summer heat and produced some
really good catches too!

My black Lab "Giget" and I spent many days hunting duck all along
the coastlines of islands...
in more shallow waters. He was great Lab!

Me feeding the dolphins
at age 27.
No longer legal nowadays. but sure was
great to be that close to them...it was fun!

My first new
guide boat, 1989. At the time this Kenner boat was top of the
line. And there was not a better looking bay fishing boat out
there. I was very proud of that boat and took many
a group fishing on it and caught big catches
of trout and reds. My first guide business was called "Sure Catch
Guide Service".

Mrs. Yancy and her
family just couldn't stop celebrating after catching more fish than
their husbands on this summer's day on the bay!

Yep, that's me on a
summer trip with my
dad aboard the Southern Queen
in !970
(before Hurricane
Celia.)

I was running a skiff
around Mustang Island
and the back bay water
complexes
when I was in my 20's.

My nephew Chad and his first boat ride out to a cabin on the water.
He was 5 then and
now he's in his twenties.

My wife Pam use to
really enjoy feeding the dolphin that would come so close you could
touch them... years ago before it was illegal.

My nephews Chad and
Vaughn about 12 years ago; they are right on the shoreline and young
Vaughn has a redfish that he's reeling onto the shore. Most
kids love to fish and I certainly love watching them catch a big
one! Love
to see the look on their faces when they catch the Big One!
Teaching kids to fish is
so rewarding for me!

And here we are
today...wife Pam and daughter Katie attending a Texans Football
Game. I'm a die-hard football fan!

Me rowing a boat when
I was a teenager.
The boat was given to me by my dad on my
15th birthday... He was a great dad!
Drum fishing in Nueces Bay.
Black Drum are like the cousin to Redfish - and they fry-up or grill
just as well.
See my seafood recipes here.

Danny and Gilbert (my
nephews) in my net-fishing skiff around 1984. Most boys like
to hang-out in boats and these two were no exception.

My daughter Katie on one of her first fishing trips . Get a kid
hooked on sports, and they usually grow up all right and stay out of
trouble.

My nephew Gilbert. back when
he was only
5-years old, with his first trout.
He was a little scared to touch the fish once he caught them,
but after a few times, he got the hang of it and can out-fish me
upon occasion...a young man now, he's one of the nicest and kindest
guys I know and he still fishes with me whenever he can.

My nephew Chad and I
fishing for some killer reds back when he
was a teenager. Now he's an accountant with Shaw Accounting
Services.
